Hydrographic licenses

Effective as of Sept. 3, 2026

The nautical charts distributed through the GeoGarage platform are published under licence agreements between Magic Instinct Software (MIS) and the national hydrographic offices and chart publishers listed below. The following acknowledgements and notices are displayed in accordance with those agreements.

Scope. This page applies to the GeoGarage subscriptions used in the compatible navigation applications (mobile and desktop), i.e. the Digital Chart Products licences. The GeoGarage web service for professional, non-navigational use is a separate product, governed by its own licences (Re-Use), whose acknowledgements and notices are displayed within that service.

Acknowledgements

US (NOAA)

USER AGREEMENT

By using the NOAA Raster Navigational Charts (NOAA RNCs®), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions stated in the NOAA User Agreement. NOAA RNCs® are geo-referenced, full-color images of NOAA's paper nautical charts, published by NOAA in the .BSB format, and are an official product of NOAA meeting the S-61 Standard "Raster Navigational Charts" of the International Hydrographic Organization.

Redistributed NOAA RNCs® are NOT considered official NOAA RNCs®, and do not meet federal chart carriage regulations for regulated vessels. NOAA RNCs® and their geoTIFF versions may not be used to print commercial products. Individuals may print them for personal use, but the result is not a NOAA chart and may not be used to meet federal chart carriage regulations.

"NOAA®" and the NOAA® emblem are registered trademarks of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA RNC® is a trademark of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

British Isles & misc.

Digital Chart Products licence GB BV 002. This chart set also includes charts of Portugal, South Africa, Oman and Malta supplied through the UK Hydrographic Office.

United Kingdom

This product has been derived in part from material obtained from the UK Hydrographic Office with the permission of the UK Hydrographic Office, the Keeper of Public Records and the following authorities: Instituto Hidrográfico of Portugal, South African Navy Hydrographic Office, National Hydrographic Office, Sultanate of Oman, Malta Maritime Authority, and the custodianship organisations listed at the end of this section.

This product does not meet the requirements of the Charts and Nautical Publications Regulations, 1995 under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001. GeoGarage uses NZMariner, the product name of the official Raster Navigational Chart (RNC) folio for NZ, published by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ). For compliance with New Zealand legal requirements for nautical charts and publications please refer to Maritime Rules Part 25 (http://www.maritimenz.govt.nz/rules/part-25/) .

The use of the NZ GeoGarage layer derived from NZMariner raster charts does not relieve the user of their obligations under New Zealand law and international convention.

UPDATES: Updates for New Zealand RNCs are issued monthly for changes published in the fortnightly electronic New Zealand Notices to Mariners booklet. For details of Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners, consult the LINZ website at www.linz.govt.nz.

Allowable usage

The GeoGarage chart sets are intended primarily for voyage and route planning and as an aid to navigation (never as a primary means of navigation), through the Compatible Applications approved by MIS (up-to-date list: geogarage.com). Training and simulation also fall within the scope of use of these applications.

The conditions of use of each Compatible Application apply; they exclude any express or implied liability for its use and do not guarantee any compliance with standards or with envisaged or intended uses. The same conditions apply to the GeoGarage nautical chart datasets.

Refer to the national regulations applicable to your vessel for chart carriage requirements and make sure you comply with them: this obligation is yours, and the use of mobile applications neither exempts you from this duty nor guarantees any express or implied compliance with such requirements. GeoGarage chart sets cannot be used to comply with carriage requirements for vessels under SOLAS rules.

Consult the Notices to Mariners of each hydrographic office for information about modifications or warnings in force.

Printing of displayed content: maximum size A3, for your personal use only, not to be used for navigation. Failing to comply with these conditions invalidates the GeoGarage licence.

Intellectual Property Rights

All intellectual property rights contained in this product are owned by, or licensed to, MIS and the international hydrographic offices and dedicated companies listed above. No intellectual property right contained in the product is transferred to any person who uses it.

You are explicitly forbidden to copy, pass on or distribute (in electronic or paper form) any chart image or data. You are forbidden to attempt to decompile, or otherwise interfere with, any encryption system, program or content of the GeoGarage chart sets.

End User Licence Agreement

Use of the GeoGarage chart sets is governed by the Terms of Service and Sale of the GeoGarage platform. By subscribing, you agree to those terms. If you do not agree with them, you are not authorised to use the chart sets and must delete the data cached on your devices.
